Hardware impediments to a fast PC:
- - A full hard disk. To check your
hard disk go My Computer - Right
Click C: drive (usually) and select properties. wizard recommends you
keep your disk less than 75% full.
- - Insufficient RAM memory. To check your RAM memory go Windows Key +
Pause Key. This brings up System Information. Read the RAM memory in
the last line of the display. Your should have 512 MB of RAM (XP) and 1
GB of RAM (Vista)in order to surf the net and run security programs.
Things you can do to speed your PC:
- - Go Windows Key + Pause Key - Advanced Tab - Startup and Recovery
Options - Change the two times to 3 and 8 seconds.
- - Go Start - Run - Enter "msconfig" - Startup Tab - Select Diable All
- Apply - Close - Restart.
These two simple steps can change a three year old machine startup time
from 8 to 2 minutes. The Computer Wizard's three year old Hewlett
Packard computer starts up in 70 seconds.
The Computer Wizard's XP speedup
program is "speedxp.exe".
Speedxp runs in less
than one second. The emptying of file folders may take longer if you
